Toddlers - 2.0 to 2.5 Years
The toddler stage is a precious stage when a child explores and discovers, is introduced to new people, places and experiences. Activities that are planned by staff are based on your child’s interests and the age and ability of each child involving the senses and motor skills. As educators, we want to provide an environment where your child feels safe and has an enjoyable and stimulating experience. The children are exposed on a daily basis to a variety of activities that enhance their learning. At this stage, we encourage speech, language and hearing as well as an awareness of things around them. Your child will become more aware of shapes, colors and numbers in the environment. We promote self-help skills such as encouraging the children to feed themselves, dress themselves and wash their hands by themselves. Our children start to become more confident in their abilities and this builds their self-esteem. They also learn to co-operate, share toys and take turns.
Preschoolers - 2.5 to 4 Years
Preschoolers are eager to learn new concepts. At this age, children learn by observing and doing. We provide an environment that focuses on educating the children on shapes, numbers, colors, vocabulary and listening skills. We also provide plenty of time for gross motor activities such as running, jumping, dancing, etc. A lot of attention is paid to hand–eye co-ordination, strengthening of pincer grip and small muscles. A variety of activities are provided that strengthens muscle development like cutting, lacing, beading, gluing, etc. We encourage the children to achieve independence in dressing themselves, putting on their shoes, feeding themselves and self–help in hygiene. We encourage the children to feel good about themselves and develop a positive self–image. The children are free to express themselves through painting, playdough, art work and other activities. They develop their cognitive skills through puzzles, sorting and classifying activities and through learning by doing. We encourage the development of social skills by having the child function as part of a group. All of these skills are presented for our children to master throughout the day in a fun and exciting way that stimulates the child and makes them eager to learn.
